Thyroid Cancer Tiroid Kanseri

Thyroid Cancer

The thyroid gland is a very small tissue of 20-30 grams located in the front of our neck. It secretes thyroid hormones and plays very important roles in many functions of our body. Thyroid cancers are quite common. In general, cancers do not cause symptoms in the patient. However, when a person touches his/her own neck or while being examined by a doctor or with an imaging method such as ultrasonography, it can be noticed that there are some swellings called nodules that are likely to be thyroid cancer. By looking at the ultrasonographic image of these nodules, it can be predicted whether this nodule is a healthy or a sick nodule, that is, whether it has cancerous tissue, and needle biopsies are performed from here.

Thyroid cancers can be treated. If thyroid cancer is detected by biopsy, the gland is first surgically removed and radioactive treatments are performed if necessary. Non-cancerous nodules need to be followed up with examination and imaging.
