Dermatology

Dermatology is the branch of medicine concerned with protecting skin health and diagnosing and treating skin diseases. Since everyone, young and old, has complaints about this largest organ of the body, dermatology is one of the departments with frequent patient visits. Infectious diseases of the skin, benign and malignant tumors, eczema and allergies, genetic diseases, congenital disorders, psoriasis and similar papulosquamous diseases, vesiculobullous diseases, urticarial and erythematous diseases, diseases with changes in skin color, and diseases of skin appendages (hair, nails, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, etc.) fall under the field of dermatology. Dermatology also requires collaboration with many medical disciplines due to the intense skin symptoms seen in other systemic diseases. For diagnosing and treating these various conditions, performing microscopic examinations, using laboratory tests, conducting dermoscopic examinations for mole monitoring, performing surgical procedures, applying cryotherapy (freezing), electro-surgical burning treatments, using lasers, and other new technological devices are among the duties of dermatology specialists. In recent years, aesthetic and cosmetic procedures have become more prominent in dermatology departments.
